On a paid plan, extra members are billed automatically at a small per-member monthly rate ($1.50–$2.50 depending on plan) added to your next invoice — the group keeps working with no interruption, up to about double your plan's member cap. Beyond that, or on the Free plan, you'll be asked to upgrade or contact us for a larger group.
No migration is required, but it's not automatic either — GroupMe doesn't let us import your members directly. You create your GroupUs group, then invite your existing members; each person opts in with a single reply, same as joining any new group.
